Boerum Hill homes

Built for Boerum Hill’s rowhouses and buildings

Most of Boerum Hill is narrow 1840s–1870s rowhouses on tree-lined side streets, with newer apartment buildings along Atlantic Avenue, Fourth Avenue and the Downtown Brooklyn border.

Greek Revival & Italianate rowhouses

Narrow brick and brownstone houses, often under 20 feet wide, where built-ins have to work around fireplaces, original mantels, deep window reveals and walls that are rarely plumb.

Floor-throughs & small condos

Rowhouses divided into floor-through apartments or a few condo units, where one room often does several jobs and closets and kitchens are planned to the inch.

New buildings on the edges

Recent condominium and rental buildings near Atlantic Avenue, Fourth Avenue and Downtown Brooklyn, where custom closets and kitchens replace builder-standard fit-outs.

Atlantic Avenue shops

Boutiques, galleries and small showrooms along Atlantic Avenue and Smith Street that need display walls, shelving and counters built to the fit-out drawings.

Planning

Planning millwork in a Boerum Hill rowhouse

  • Stoop, stair and hallway clearances, so every piece fits through on the way in
  • Garden-level or parlor-floor entry, and street parking for the delivery truck
  • Scribing to plaster walls, sloped floors and original trim
  • Board or condo approval and work hours in converted and newer buildings

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How far is Boerum Hill from your shop?

Our shop is at 4014 1st Ave in Industry City, Brooklyn, a short drive from Boerum Hill, which makes measuring visits and delivery days simpler to schedule.

Can large built-ins get up a rowhouse stair?

Pieces are sized and split to fit the narrowest stair, doorway and turn on the way in. Those clearances are measured before anything is built.

Do you build closets for houses with little original storage?

Yes. Many Boerum Hill houses were built with almost no closets, so we build fitted wardrobes, aluminum and glass closet systems and alcove storage to the room.

How do I start a project?

Send drawings, photos or measurements through our contact page or call 718-483-5274, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
