Custom Millwork & Cabinetry on the Upper West Side

Prewar apartments along Central Park West, West End Avenue and Riverside Drive, and brownstones on the side streets between them. We build kitchens, bookcases, built-ins and closets for them, made to measure in our Industry City shop.

Upper West Side buildings

Built for prewar apartments and brownstones

The avenues are lined with prewar co-ops with classic layouts; the side streets hold brownstones and rowhouses, and Lincoln Square adds postwar and newer towers.

Classic prewar layouts

A formal living room, a dining room, a separate kitchen and a small room off it, often reworked to open the kitchen or add a home office.

Bookcases & window seats

Built-in bookshelves and window seats sized to the actual room, including out-of-square corners and deep window sills.

Brownstone apartments

Rowhouses divided into apartments, with narrow stairs and rooms that have shifted over the years.

Newer towers

Postwar and newer buildings around Lincoln Square, where custom closets and kitchens replace standard ones.

Planning

Planning millwork in an Upper West Side apartment

  • Alteration agreement and approval of plans before fabrication starts
  • Radiators, risers and window sills that often can’t move in a co-op
  • Service elevator size and delivery hours
  • Final measurements after demolition, when walls and floors are visible

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can you turn a spare room into a home office or closet?

Yes. Wall display systems and walk-in closets are built to the dimensions of the room, with shelving, storage and hanging systems laid out for how you’ll use it.

Can cabinets be built around radiators and risers?

Yes. Because everything is made to measure, cabinetry and built-ins can be designed around radiators, pipes and window sills instead of forcing standard boxes into the space.

Do you offer German kitchens for prewar apartments?

Yes. We are an authorized partner for Novalina kitchens, manufactured by Schüller in Germany, planned around the layout of your space.

Do you build library walls and bookcases?

Yes. Bookcases, window seats and library walls are built to the measured room and finished to your selections.
