Custom Millwork & Cabinetry on the Upper East Side

From prewar co-ops on Fifth and Park to townhouses on the side streets, Upper East Side homes call for millwork that matches their proportions and meets their buildings’ rules. We build it in our Industry City shop.

Upper East Side buildings

Built for prewar co-ops and townhouses

Much of the Upper East Side is prewar; Lenox Hill, Carnegie Hill and Yorkville each have their own mix of buildings.

Avenue co-ops

Large cooperative buildings along Fifth, Madison, Park and Lexington, with generous rooms, narrow kitchens and small closets by today’s standards.

Side-street townhouses

Brownstone and limestone townhouses where stairs, turns and landings decide how big a single unit can be.

Postwar & newer towers

Condominium and rental towers further east, where standard kitchens and closets are replaced with custom work.

Plaster & radiators

Walls that are rarely perfectly straight, plus risers and radiators that stay put, so kitchens and built-ins are planned around them.

Planning

Planning millwork in an Upper East Side co-op

  • Alteration agreement and approval of plans; some co-ops limit renovation to certain months
  • Service elevator size and delivery hours
  • Stair widths and turns in townhouses; tall units may be built in sections
  • Final measurements after demolition, once walls, risers and radiators are exposed

How a project runs

From drawings to delivery

  1. Project review

Send drawings, photos or a description of the space and what you need.

  2. Dimensions & selections

Measurements, materials and product selections are confirmed before anything is made.

  3. Fabrication & preparation

Millwork and aluminum systems are built in our Brooklyn shop; fireplaces are ordered to your selection.

  4. Delivery & installation coordination

Delivery is scheduled and installation is coordinated with your contractor or installation team.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can you work within my co-op’s alteration rules?

Yes. We build to the drawings approved for your renovation and plan fabrication and delivery around your building’s schedule, elevator access and work-hour rules.

Can I have a fireplace in an apartment without a chimney?

Bioethanol fireplaces need no chimney, flue or gas connection; each model has its own requirements for room size, air circulation and clearances. Check your building’s alteration rules first.

Do you build walk-in closets for prewar apartments?

Yes. Closets are built for the space, in an existing closet, a spare room or a hallway, combining aluminum, glass, wood and stone with shelving, hanging systems and drawers.

Do you build for townhouses too?

Yes. Pieces are sized to the stairs and doorways on the way in, and tall units can be built in sections and assembled in place.
